DUSHANBE, May 29, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s media are quite active in coverage of the corruption-related problems, Mr. Donald Brouther (phonetically spelled), chief adviser to the UNDP transparency and Accountability Program, remarked at the seminar entitled “Civil Society and Fight against Corruption” in Dushanbe on May 28.
As an example, he cited publications in Asia-Plus, noting that such materials cannot be found, for example, in the Belarus print media.
In the meantime, Tajik political scientist Parviz Mullojonov noted said that in coverage of the corruption-related developments, Tajik media have still confined themselves to mentioning separate aspects of that problem.
“However, involvement of civil society and media in combating corruption is to be observed in the country,” the political science said.
The seminar aiming to consider a role of civil society in combating corruption was launched yesterday and is concluding today.
