The Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower house of parliament) today ratified an investment agreement on introduction of an automate system of control and metering of electric power in Dushanbe.

An investment agreement on introduction of an automate system of control and metering of electric power in Dushanbe was signed between the Government of Tajikistan and consortium of investors, consisting of Avesta Group Ltd, OJSC Tajikgidroelektromontazh and Dushanbe Citi Ltd, in December last year.

A total cost of the project, which provides for installation of electricity billing meters in Dushanbe, is 88 million U.S. dollars.

Presenting the agreement to lawmakers, the head of the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest), Farrukh Hamralizoda, said that the mentioned companies intended to install more than 250,000 new electricity meters in the Tajik capital within the next five years.

The implementation of the project will begin this year in Dushanbe’s Sino district.  95,000 electricity billing meters are expected to be installed in the Sino district.

The new electricity meters will be installed for residential consumers free of charge.

The project will allow reducing technical losses in electricity transmission and distribution grids from current 19 to 12 percent.  Electricity fee collection rate is expected to increase from 81 to 99 percent.
