Energy Minister: Kyrgyzstan may get into energy crises in February 2009

“Rigid exceeding of power limits may lead Kyrgyzstan into deep energy crises in February 2009,” Saparbek Balkibekov, the Kyrgyz Minister of Energy Resources told reporters on Tuesday, November 11, 2008.

Daily power blackouts were canceled since November 3, 2008 on a condition of economical usage of electricity devises. For this purpose government commanded to cut down three-phase electricity lead-ins in all Bishkek houses, hoping that it will save up to 18mln kWh (660 Megawatt).

“In fact we failed our plan and faced limits excess. It may cause energy crises in February 2009, when the Toktogul reservoir, which provides 40 percent of Kyrgyzstan’s power energy, drains,” Balkibekov said.
