KHUJAND, February 13, Asia-Plus – Another alleged activist of the banned religious extremist “Hizb ut-Tahrir” organization was arrested in the
northern province
of Sughd on Sunday [February 12].
According to information from the Sughd police directorate, the detainee is the 28-year-old resident of Bobjonghafurov district, whose name is not disclosed in the interest of the investigation. The source says he allegedly was deputy leader (naqib) of one of cells of the Hizb ut-Tahrir network in northern
Tajikistan
.
The source says he was charged to control collection of membership fees and recruit new members to the organization.
The Sughd regional prosecutor’s office has brought charges against him under Article 307 of Tajikistan’s Criminal Code – public calls for forcible overthrow of constitutional system in

The Sughd police directorate source has also told Asia-Plus that two days before this the 29-year-old resident of Khujand was arrested on suspicion of being member of the “Hizb ut-Tahrir” organization.
In total, in northern
Tajikistan
, 10 criminal proceedings have been instituted against 10 alleged members of the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization since the beginning of the year, according to the source.
