DUSHANBE, July 22, Asia-Plus  — Minister of Agriculture Qosim Qosimov on July 20 met here with visiting President of British Wakefield Inspection Services (WIS), Mr. Peter Wakefield.

The talks focused on issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation.

With support of WIS, Tajik-British joint venture, closed joint-stock company (CJSC) Tajikistan-WIS, was established in Tajikistan in 2006.  The enterprise is engaged in classifying cotton fiber quality.

Speaking to reporters following his meeting with Qosimov, Mr. Wakefield said that the main purpose of his first visit to Tajikistan was to study activity of Tajikistan-WIS and develop a plan of actions for installation of new state-of-the-art equipment at the enterprise.

According to him, WIS has its branches and representatives offices in 73 countries of the world and certificate granted by the company is recognized in 99.9 percent of cases in all countries of the world.  “Our activity in Tajikistan is based, first of all, on providing fairness and transparency in the case of classifying the cotton fiber quality,” Mr. Wakefield said.

We will recall that last year, Tajikistan-WIS opened three labs for classifying cotton fiber quality and issuing international standard compliance certificates.  The laboratories allow determining quality of cotton fiber in accordance with international practice.

Since its establishment in 1993, Wakefield Inspection Services, a privately owned international company, has developed the reputation of a robust and reliable organization whose factual and concise reports are highly respected and recognized worldwide by Governments, Insurance Companies, Banks and International Trade Merchants.  Edward T. Robertson & Son (ETR), a privately owned firm of international cotton controllers was established in Bremen, Germany in 1906, and rapidly expanded by opening branches in major cotton producing and consuming countries.  ETR became the worldwide leader in cotton controlling and during the late sixties, was purchased by Esperanza Trade and Transport Ltd. of London. In 1993, Wakefield Inspection Services Ltd., Liverpool acquired the assets of ETR & Son, Inc. and ETR & Son, Ltd. to continue the tradition of excellence that began in 1906.
