DUSHANBE, June 8, 2009, Asia-Plus — The public association, Tatar Community “Umet,” has been registered in Tajikistan, the national news agency Khovar reported on June 5.

Khovar quoted the Umet chairman Renat Sayfutdinov as saying that priorities of activity of the organization were expansion and strengthening of historical, cultural, spiritual and social ties between Tajikistan and Russia’s Tatarstan Republic.

“Since our community mainly consists of teachers and researchers, among whom quite a lot of respected persons known both in our country and Russia’s Tatarstan Republic, we intend to conduct intellectual activity,” Sayfutdinov said.

According to him, one of important directions of the organization’s activity will be opening classes for teaching Tartar, Tajik, Russian and English languages.

He also noted that Tajik diasporas currently were almost in all cities of Tatarstan and members of those diasporas worked with many educational facilities there.  “This is evidence of good and friendly relations between our peoples.  Cooperating with the Government of Tajikistan, the Russian Embassy in Dushanbe and local public associations, Umet also plans to establish close cultural and creative ties with other ethnic-cultural centers in Tajikistan,” Sayfutdinov said.
