Nearly 35 kilos of narcotics seized in operation in Khatlon

DUSHANBE, January 28, 2011, Asia-Plus — Officers from the mobile unit of the Drug Control Agency (DCA) detained two members of the drug-trafficking organized crime group in Khatlon’s Qumsangir district on January 27, according to the CA press service.

This group was involved in transporting Afghan narcotics to the Russian Federation via Central Asia’s countries, the source said.

“Two members of this group — 25-year-old Tajik national, who has previous conviction of vandalism (Article 237 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code), and 38-year-old Afghan national – were caught at the Afghan border yesterday in the act,” said the source “Two sacks containing 34 kilograms of hashish and nearly one kilogram of heroin were confiscated from them.”  The drugs were destined for Russia.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against them under the provisions of Article 200 (4) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – drug trafficking.

We will recall that Tajik counternarcotics agency formed and deployed mobile antinarcotics units along the border with Afghanistan in October 2005.
