DUSHANBE, April 2, 2011, Asia-Plus — The Dushanbe municipal waterworks (Dushanbevodokanal or DVK), the utility in charge of providing water supply and sewerage service to the Dushanbe area, has installed and introduced into operation a new water purification equipment.
The new water purification system was introduced into operation on Aril 1 and speaking at the system-opening ceremony, Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev noted that the project for rehabilitation of cleansing facilities and purchase of the new equipment had been funded by the World Bank that had allocated some 2 million U.S. dollars for those purposes.
According to the mayor, the new equipment will allow to provide 40 percent of the city’s population with safe drinking water.
The equipment has been installed at the water treatment plant that supplies water to Dushanbe’s Ismoili Somoni, Sino and Firdawsi districts, Ubaidulloyev said.
He noted that the water purification equipment had been purchased in Germany and German specialists had installed the equipment. German specialists have also instructed the station staff in operating the equipment.
