Tajik authorities expect year-end inflation to stand at 9.0-9.4 percent

DUSHANBE, April 25, 2011, Asia-Plus  — The Ministry of Finance (MoF) expects Tajikistan’s 2011 year-end inflation to stand at 9.0-9.4 percent.

Minister of Finance Safarali Najmiddinov remarked this at a news conference in Dushanbe today.  “In November 2010 when the national budget for 2011 was adopted, 2011 year-end inflation was projected at 7.0 percent and our expectations for 2011 inflation now rose to 9.0-9.4 percent,” the minister said.

According to him, the real inflation for January-March 2011 stood at 4.5 percent, which is 2.9 percent higher than in the same period last year.  Najmiddinov noted that sharp rise in inflation over the report period has been reported not only in Tajikistan, “the sharp rise in inflation has been reported in other countries as well.”

The minister noted that increasing international prices for food and oil products had indirectly affected the inflation rate in Tajikistan.  “We are taking measure to curb inflation and inflation rise rate is expected to fall in May-June due to increase in rates of production growth inside the country,” he said.

“We will support domestic producer through granting them appropriate privileges, increasing loan resources and budgetary financing,” Najmiddinov stressed.
