State of forests in Tajikistan evokes serious concern: committee for forestry and environmental protection

DUSHANBE, January 27, Asia-Plus — In 2005, the Committee for Forestry and Environmental Protection carried out more than 29,500 inspections in the republic, Chairman of the Committee for Forestry and Environmental Protection, Abduvohid Karimov, told journalists on January 26.  

According to him, the Committee last year issued more than 46,000 directions to removed the revealed shortcomings.  “Of them, 34,039 directions (74 percent) have already been fulfilled, Karimov said.   

“State of forests in the republic evokes serious concern,” said the Forestry and Environmental Committee head, noting that inspections revealed 1,7252 instances of violation of the country’s environmental protection legislation and the offenders were fined a total of 58,525 Somonis.
