Kyrgyzstan provides humanitarian aid to disaster-hit areas of Tajikistan

ISFARA, June 8, Asia-Plus  — The Government of Kyrgyzstan has provided 4.3 million Kyrgyz som (equivalent to some 100,000 U.S. dollars) worth of humanitarian aid to Tajikistan, Turatbek Junushaliyev, an official with Kyrgyz MFA, remarked at a meeting with reporters in the Tajik northern city of Isfara on Sunday.

Junushaliyev was accompanying the convoy of the Kyrgyz humanitarian aid that arrived in Isfara from Kyrgyz Batken region yesterday and then it went to Khujand.  The aid will be distributed to families that were hit by torrential rain and resulting mudslides over the past spring, the Kyrgyz MFA official said.

According to the Isfara assistance service, the assistance includes more than 13 tons of reinforcing steel, 5,000 square meters of fiberboard, 1,000 slate sheets, two generators, two steam boilers, three transformers as well as spare parts for water supply system.
