DUSHANBE, June 9, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Chairmen of electoral commissions in Sughd’s districts bordering Kyrgyzstan will participate in observing Kyrgyzstan’s presidential election that will be held on July 23 this year, Asia-Plus has learned from Muhibullo Dodojonov, an official with the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER).

According to him, Tajik observers will work mainly in the territory of Batken region that borders Tajikistan’s northern Sughd province.  “A decision on that has been made in connection with shortage of funds for sending our observers to Kyrgyzstan and appropriate agreement on this subject has been reached with Kyrgyz authorities,” Dodojonov said, noting that 18 Tajik observers would monitor the voting process in Kyrgyzstan.

In the meantime, the source at the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) said that known Tajik poet also member of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Youth Policy Gulnazar Keldiyev would be among members of mission of observers from the CIS Inter-Parliament Assembly.

In Kyrgyzstan, the president is elected for a five-year term by the people (before the 2009 election, for a four-year term).
