Dushanbe’s mayor dissatisfied with work of local electricity provider

DUSHANBE, June 10, 2009, Asia-Plus  — A June 9 meeting of the Dushanbe mayor’s office, presided over by Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, reviewed the results of work of the first five months of this year, according to Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor.

During the meeting, it was noted that five new industrial enterprises had been introduced into operation in Dushanbe over the report period.  The overall volume of consumer goods manufactured over the same five-month period has increased by 6.1 million somoni, or 12.4 percent, compared to the same period of 2008.  114.4 million somoni, including 34.1 million somoni of foreign investments, have been invested in the construction sector.

The revenue part of Dushanbe’s budget for January-May 2009 has been overfulfilled by 11.1 percent, reaching 263.3 million somoni and the capital city’s share in replenishment of the national budget has accounted for 40 percent, the spokesman said.

Dushanbe’s trade turnover over the report period has amounted to 393 million somoni, which is 23.6 percent more than in the same period of last year.

Foreign direct investments in Dushanbe’s economy in January-May 2009 have amounted to 67.7 million U.S. dollars, which 12.9 million dollars more than in the same period of last year.

An average monthly wage in Dushanbe for the report period was some 540 somoni, which is 26.4 percent more than in January-May 2008. 6,481 new jobs have been created in the city over the report period.

In January-May this year, Dushanbe has produced industrial goods 29 million somoni, or 13.9 percent, fewer, than in the same period of last year.

Speaking at the meeting, Mayor Ubaidulloyev harshly criticized local electricity provider.  He noted that Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding had reached only 8-10 percent of work on installation of new transformers and replacement of pylons in the city so far.  The mayor also pointed out an unfounded increase in power losses in Dushanbe.
