KULOB, July 22, 2009, Asia-Plus — The deputy Khatlon prosecutor in charge of the Kulob zone, Alfattoh Roziqov, told Asia-Plus today that Captain Abdusalom Kenjayev, a senior officer with the Hamadoni police department, was arrested on July 21 on suspicion of having beaten suspect in order to coerce a confession from him.

According to him, criminal proceedings have been instituted against Captain Kenjayev under the provisions of Article 316, part 3 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – abuse of authority.

“It is already the second case this year when local police officers violate laws,” said the prosecutor, “Two months ago, an inspector with the Kulob police department, B. Mirzoyev, was detained for taking bribe for concealing crime.”
