DUSHANBE, July 25, 2009, Asia-Plus – Entrance examinations to the branch of Moscow State University in Dushanbe will start tomorrow.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the Branch director Haydar Odinayev said that they have accepted applications from 80 school leavers so far.  “This year, we will accept only 45 students,” said Odinayev, “20 of them will study applied mathematics and 25 others will study international relations.  The entrance examinations will be held in the building of Tajik Technical University.”

According to him, many school leavers do not dare to hand in documents to the branch because of poor knowledge of the Russian language.  “In the meantime, 6-month Russian course will be organized for entrants who have excellent knowledge of the main subjects,” Odinayev said.

He noted that that major subject would be taught by teachers from Moscow State University while teachers from local universities would be invited for teaching some humanities subjects.

Lomonosov Moscow State University is the largest university in Russia.  Founded in 1755, it also claims to be the oldest university in Russia and the tallest educational building in the world.  As of 2004, the university has some 4,000 staff teaching 31,000 students and 7,000 postgraduates.

Branches of Moscow State University now function in Sevastopol (Ukraine), in number of Russian cities, Astana (Kazakhstan), Baku (Azerbaijan) and Tashkent (Uzbekistan).
