KULOB, August 13, 2009, Asia-Plus — Some 6 million somoni of dilapidated banknotes have been immobilized in Khatlon’s Kulob zone over the first seven months of this year, Abdukarim Nematov, the head of the branch of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) in Kulob, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, the major part of the dilapidated banknotes was immobilized through the branches of Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank) and Agroinvestbonk in the area.
“Amonabonk’s branches have replaced 1,159,858 somoni of the dilapidated banknotes with the new ones over the report period and branches of Agroinvestbonk have replaced 3,678,819 somoni of the dilapidated banknotes,” Nematov said.
