DUSHANBE, December 11, 2009, Asia-Plus — The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Uzbekistan has invited four observers from Tajikistan to monitor parliamentary elections that will take place in Uzbekistan on December 27.
According to the Uzbek Embassy in Dushanbe, Mr. Mirzoali Boltuyev, the head of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) of Tajikistan, Mr. Suhrob Sharipov, the director of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Tajikistan, Mr. Gulnazar Keldy, deputy of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), and one representative from the CCER have been invited to monitor voting process during the parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan.
“Observers will focus on legal foundation of the voting process, political campaign, work of electoral commissions both at national and regional level and the process of lodging and considering complaints,” the source at the Uzbek embassy said.
