KHUJAND, December 21, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Sughd authorities have reportedly provided amnestied Russian national with food products and money and taken him to the Kyrgyz border.

Farrukh Jalilov, a chief inspector with the Khujand high-security penal colony, told Asia-Plus Monday that the 27-year-old Russian national Maksim Yevdokimov was granted amnesty on November 7.  “Yesterday, when all necessary documents where prepared, Yevdokimov was provided with 850 somoni, 10 cans of stewed meat, bread and sugar and was taken to the Kyrgyz border as he decided to go home by rail through neighboring Kyrgyzstan,” Jalilov said, noting that several other Russian nationals are serving their sentences in the Khujand high-security penal colony.

We will recall that the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) on November 2 this year adopted the law granting amnesty to an estimated 10,000 prisoners.  The amnesty pardons mainly convicts who were under 18 years when they committed their crimes, men and women over 55, and foreign nationals.
