Electricity rationing to be lifted from November 15 to November 17 on occasion of Idi Qurbon

Date:

DUSHANBE, November 15, 2010, Asia-Plus  — By government’s decision electricity rationing introduced in rural areas of the country will be lifted from 4:00 pm on November 16 to 10 pm on November 17 on the occasion of Idi Qurbon, which is marked in Tajikistan this year on October 16, Nozirjon Yodgori, a spokesman for Barqi Tojik power holding (Tajik electricity supplier), told Asia-Plus today.

Electricity rationing seeking to curb the country’s rising electricity consumption and stemming from a decline in the water level in the country’s reservoirs powering the main hydropower plants is usually introduced in all regions of Tajikistan except Dushanbe in October or November and last through April next year.

This year, electricity rationing was introduced on November 3 and it resulted in the supply of daily electricity being reduced to 12 hours.  To-date, electricity rationing has been introduced only in rural areas, while administrative centers of provinces and districts and cities have not been affected by the rationing.
