DUSHANBE, February 1, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Tajik law enforcement authorities have broken up a human trafficking ring in Dushanbe.

Tajik law enforcement official told Asia-Plus Monday afternoon that they have arrested three persons in Dushanbe who were allegedly involved in human trafficking.

“Investigation has established that the Dushanbe resident Shuhrat Abdualimov and two his immediate female relatives are involved in trafficking local young women to the United Arab Emirates (UAE),” said the source.  “In January 2010, they trafficked 30-year-old Qurbonbi and 28-year-old Zuhro to UAE and forced them into prostitution.”

All members of this human trafficking ring have been arrested and an investigation is under way, the source added.

According to the data from the Ministry of Interior, 530 crimes related to trafficking in persons were reported and solved in 2010, including seven abduction cases, ten cases of illegal deprivation of freedom, six cases of human trafficking, 16 cases of selling and buying of minors, 14 cases of recruitment of persons for exploitation, etc.

Since 2005, 107 nationals of Tajikistan that have become victims of human trafficking have been returned home.  Many of them have undergone rehabilitation at crisis centers in Dushanbe and Khujand under support of international donors.
