DUSHANBE, September 26, 2012, Asia-Plus — On Tuesday September 25, Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, Speaker of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper house of parliament), received a delegation of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, led by Mirsolav Antl, the chairman of the Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs in the Senate.
In the course of the talks, Ubaidulloyev reportedly briefed Czech parliamentarians on the structure of Tajikistan’s upper house of parliament and expressed hope that the visit of Czech MPs would promote further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Czech Republic.
Mr. Antl, for his part, noted that the main purpose of the visit was for the delegation to establish and expand parliamentarian ties between the two countries.
The sides reportedly outlined tourism as an area of which could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries.
They also discussed issues related to the current situation in Afghanistan and establishment of the parliamentary friendship groups within the parliaments of both countries.
The Parliament of the Czech Republic is the legislative body of the Czech Republic, based in Prague. It consists of two chambers, both elected in direct elections: the Lower House: Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic; and the Upper House: Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic.
