DUSHANBE, December 26, 2012, Asia-Plus  — The Government of Japan has allocated 111,714 U.S. dollars for the project, The Improvement of Microsurgical Department of the Republican Scientific Center for Cardiovascular Surgery of Tajikistan, within the framework of Grant Assistance for the Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP).

According to Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe, Mr. Hiroyuki Imahashi, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe and Mr. Kholmahmad Rahimov, Director of Tajikistan’s Republican Scientific Center for Cardiovascular Surgery of Tajikistan attended the handover ceremony at the Republican Scientific Center for Cardiovascular Surgery of Tajikistan on December 25.

The Republican Scientific Center for Cardiovascular Surgery is a vital institute in Tajikistan with capability to perform delicate surgery for reattachment, plastic and rhinoplasty for emergency cases.  The department annually receives 600 patients, 40% of which are emergency cases.  However, the shortage of medical equipment acute for microsurgery for long time was an issue for the center and made difficult for the department to provide prompt and appropriate microsurgery to patients.

The Government of Japan provided the department with modern medical devices, including several sets of surgical instruments, an operation lamp, an electrical scalpel and a surgical drill needed for rhinoplasty and plastic surgery.  The department is now capable of performing higher quality and more secure microsurgery.

Improvement of the health sector and its capacity ensures the people’s living standards as well as basic human rights for health in Tajikistan.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level.  Since 1996, GGP has extended more than US$ 22 million in humanitarian assistance for 290 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan.
