Chiefs of army staffs of Pakistan and China expected to visit Tajikistan soon

DUSHANBE, February 25, 2016, Asia-Plus — Chiefs of army staffs of Pakistan and China expected to visit Tajikistan in the near future, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

The Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army, General Raheel Sharif, will visit Tajikistan from February 29 to March 2.

General Raheel Sharif is a four-star rank army general.  He has served as 15th Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army, since 2013.

The Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan Army is the four-star rank appointment in the Pakistan Army, held by the senior four-star rank officer appointed by the President of Pakistan, on a summary sent by the Prime Minister of Pakistan.  The appointment is in principle for three years subject to extensions granted by the President of Pakistan on recommendation from The Prime Minister of Pakistan.  The appointment is vested with complete operational, training and logistics commands.  

The Chief of General Staff of the People”s Liberation Army (PLA) of the People”s Republic of China, who is also member of the Central Military Commission, General Fang Fenghui, will arrive in Tajikistan on a two-day visit February 28.

General Fang was appointed as the Chief of the Headquarters of the General Staff of the 2.3-million-strong PLA on October 25, 2012

The PLA General Staff Headquarters is located in Beijing and its duties include PLA Operations Command, Recruitments, Mobilizations, Formation, Trainings and Administration.

Besides, a Chinese delegation, led by Mr. Cheng Guoping, Special Representatives for Counterterrorism and Security Matters, will arrive in Dushanbe on a three-day visit on February 28, the source said.
