Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov has held a number of meetings in New York on the sidelines of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

On September 20, Aslov held talks with his Mongolian counterpart Tsend Munkh-Orgil.

They reportedly discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Mongolia and the issue of accession of Tajikistan to the Multilateral Agreement for the Establishment of an International Think Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries.

Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Mongolia were established on April 24, 1992.  A number of bilateral legal documents were signed during Tajik President Emomali Rahmon’s visit to Mongolia in March 2009.

On the same day, Aslov met with Dr. Sarah B. Sewall, the U.S. Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights.

The two reportedly discussed a broad range of issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and United States.

Dr. Sarah B. Sewall, leads the U.S. State Department efforts to prevent and counter threats to civilian security and effective governance, such as terrorism, violent extremism, conflict, mass atrocities, and transnational crime.
