The number of cases of deportation of Tajik citizens from Russia increasing

Asia-Plus

The number of cases of deportation of Tajik citizens from the Russian Federation is increasing.

According to the Tajik migration service agency, about 325,000 Tajik nationals have been deported from the Russian Federation over the first seven months of this year, which is much more than in the same period last year.

About 130,000 Tajik nationals were reportedly deported from Russia in January-July last year.

Representatives of the Tajik migration service agency say the main reason for increase in the number of cases of deportation of Tajik nationals from the Russian Federation is toughening of Russia’s migration legislation.

Meanwhile, some local experts attribute increase in the number of cases of deportation of Tajik nationals from the Russian Federation to Tajikistan’s unwillingness to join the Eurasian Economic Union.  According to them, deportation of Tajik migrants is an instrument of pressure on the Tajik authorities
