One market have been shut down in Dushanbe for noncompliance with fire safety requirements.
One of merchants running shops at the Sakhovat bazaar told Asia-Plus today that the bazaar was closed down in the evening of November 1.
According to her, fire inspectors came to the bazaar at around 8:00 pm and sealed it. “They neither allow us trading nor taking our goods,” said the woman. “Three days have passed and many products have probably decayed.”
One of Dushanbe officials, who wanted to remain unnamed, says the bazaar was closed down for noncompliance with fire safety requirements.
Vendors do not know what to do. They say they have observed fire safety requirements and the market has frequently been inspected from compliance with fire safety requirements.
Located in the southern part of Dushanbe, the Sakhovat bazaar is the largest food market in the city.
As it had been reported earlier, Dushanbe’s Shohmansour bazaar was closed last week. It was also closed down for alleged noncompliance with fire safety requirements.
Merchants running shops at the Shohmansour bazaar said it was temporarily closed down in the morning of October 26.
Mashrab Qarayev the deputy director of the Shohmansour bazaar, says the bazaar has been temporarily closed down following an instruction of the Dushanbe fire department.
According to him, the bazaar has been closed down for an uncertain period – until shortcomings in the bazaar’s fire safety system are removed and inflammable panels of the shops are replaced.
“Rumors about relocation of vendors to the Poytakht-80 trading center are absolutely unfounded,” Qarayev added.
Vendors, however, say that the fire department has just implemented the city administration’s instruction on promotion of the Poytakht-80 trading center.
