Uzbek Interior Minister Abdusalom Azizov will arrive in Tajikistan in late June to participate in a meeting of the CIS Council of Interior Ministers. It will be the first visit of Uzbek interior minister to Tajikistan since 2008.
A session of the CIS Council of Interior Ministers will take place in Dushanbe from Jun27-29, an official source at the Tajik law enforcement authorities told Asia-Plus in an interview.
The CIS interior ministers are expected to discuss cooperation in combating transnational crime and the course of implementation of decisions on combating international terrorism and other manifestations of extremism as well as drug trafficking adopted by the previous session of the CIS Council of Interior Ministers.
While in Dushanbe, Azizov will also hold talks with senior representatives of the Tajik Interior Ministry and other high-ranking officials of power-wielding block of Tajikistan’s government, the source added.
For the last time, heads of the Uzbek interior ministry visited Tajikistan nineteen years ago. It was the then Interior Minister of Uzbekistan Zokir Almatov, who visited Dushanbe in 2008.
Abdusalom Azizov was appointed as Interior Minister of Uzbekistan on January 4, 2017, replacing Adham Ahmedbayev.
Prior to his appointment Abdusalom Azizov served as chief of police in Jizzakh region. Azizov had served as chief of police in Jizzakh region since December 2009.
From December 2008 to December 2009, Azizov served as First Deputy Interior Minister of Uzbekistan.
From November to December 2008, he was Deputy Interior Minister of Uzbekistan.
From September 2006 to November 2008, Azizov was Director General of Uznefteproduct, an affiliate of the National Holding Company Uzbekneftegaz.
In early September 2006, Abdusalom Azizov served as Chairman of the Management Board of the National Holding Company Uzbekneftegaz.
