Counterfeiter detained in Dushanbe

A counterfeiter has been detained in Dushanbe.  He has reportedly used printer to make fake bills.

According to the Interior Ministry’s website, a 21-year-old resident of Dushanbe has been detained on suspicion of counterfeiting.  Twenty-four counterfeit 100-somoni banknotes have been confiscated from him.  He has reportedly used printer to make fake 100-somoni banknotes.

While searching his house, police officers have found three printers, a consignment of counterfeit 100-somoni banknotes and 170 meters of special paper, the website said.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the alleged counterfeiter under the provisions of Article 170 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – producing fake bills and equities; an investigation is under way.  If convicted, he faces up to eight years in prison with confiscation of property.
