Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday received a delegation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Board of Directors.
According to the Tajik president’s official website, the sides discussed state and prospects of further expansion of collaboration between Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank.
Emomali Rahmon reportedly expressed satisfaction with the current level of situation between Tajikistan and the Bank.
Enhancing food security, hydropower and infrastructure in Tajikistan was reportedly outlined as one of priorities of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the ADB.
They reportedly also discussed issues related to expansion of regional trade and economic cooperation, attraction of additional funds for mitigation of effects of natural disasters in various regions of Tajikistan, and providing financial stability and balanced budget in Tajikistan.
Tajikistan joined ADB in 1998. To date, ADB has approved over $1.5 billion in concessional loans, grants, and technical assistance to the country. ADB operations in Tajikistan focus on improved infrastructure, investment climate reforms, and improved food security.
ADB, based in Manila, is dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration. Established in 1966, ADB is celebrating 50 years of development partnership in the region. It is owned by 67 countries — 48 from the region. In 2016, ADB assistance totaled $31.7 billion, including $14 billion in cofinancing.
