Tajikistan’s Lakhsh (formerly Jirgatol) district in the Rasht Valley and Kyrgyzstan’s Chong-Alai district have vowed to develop cross-border trade.
Entrepreneurs of Lakhsh and Chong-Alai met in the administrative center of the Lakhsh district on July 7 to discuss cooperation.
40 representatives of border villages of the two districts reportedly participated in the meeting that was organized under support of the UNDP-implemented Aid for Trade in Central Asia Project.
The meeting participants exchanged views on ways to develop cross-border trade and discussed economic relations between the border villages of the two districts.
They, in particular, pointed to the necessity of developing traditional trade relations by means of improvement of work of border marketplaces, creation of proper conditions for movement of people and goods, and development of contacts between local merchants and entrepreneurs for the purpose of more widely using export potential of both districts.
The Aid for Trade in Central Project supports countries in the region to benefit from increasing resources available from Aid for Trade (AfT) and to harvest the benefits of trade for human development.
