Tajikistan’s upper house (Majlisi Milli) of parliament has seconded the law banning alcohol and tobacco firms from sponsoring Tajik print and electronic media
A session of the Majlisi Milli, presided over by its head, Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, took place in Dushanbe on July 12.
Majlisi Milli members unanimously seconded the amendments made to the country’s law on advertising.
The amendments, in particular, ban alcohol and tobacco manufacturers from sponsoring Tajik TV and radio programs as well as print media.
The amendments also provide for putting ban on advertising alcohol and tobacco products in the country.
The also ban the use of terms such as “number one”, “the best”, “High quality” and “at low prices” for advertisement of goods and services in Tajikistan.
Majlisi Milli member Ozoda Rahmon, who is also the chairperson of President’s Executive Office, noted that alcohol and tobacco firms sponsoring Tajik media would be fined.
Recall, deputies of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament endorsed the mentioned amendments on May 31.
The current country’s law on advertising puts ban on advertising medicines, medical equipment, food additives and cosmetics that have not been registered with relevant bodies of Tajikistan.
The current advertising law also bans advertising any type of weapons and military equipment, with the exception of allowed civilian weapons, including hunting and sports guns.
Advertisement of civilian weapons is permitted only in print media. Advertisement of civilian weapons in electronic media is permitted only after 22:00 pm.
