All sub-units of the Khorog garrison and reservists of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) were alerted last overnight.
Large-scale military exercise for the country’s power wielding structures was launched in Gorno Badakhshan on July 17, an official source at the Ministry of Defense told Asia-Plus in an interview.
The exercise involves up to 10,000 servicemen of the country’s armed forces, border guards, reservists, local police, civilian support service as well as hundreds of armored carriers, military vehicles and aviation, the source said.
The Minister of Defense Sherali Mirzo is reportedly in overall command of ongoing war game that will run through July 20.
The exercise scenario is reportedly based on annihilating terrorist groups penetrating into the region from Afghanistan.
The purpose of the exercise is also to rehearse organization of territorial defense and mobilization of reservists, the source said.
Recall, similar four-day military exercise for reservists from Khatlon province was conducted from March 27 to 30.
