“China will award a grant worth 230 million U.S. dollars to Tajikistan,” Jamshed Ahmadzoda, the head of the Committee for Architecture and Construction under the Government of Tajikistan, told reporters in Dushanbe on July 19.

According to him, the grant will cover the construction of the parliamentary complex in Dushanbe.  “An appropriate agreement has already been reached with China,” Ahmadzoda said, noting that they are currently conducting negotiations on awarding grant for the construction of the governmental complex.

Recall, a source from the Tajik government told Asia-Plus in early May that Saudi Arabia has plans to award a grant worth 200 million U.S. dollars to Tajikistan for the construction of parliamentary and governmental complexes in Dushanbe.

The grant agreement for the construction of the complexes in Dushanbe was reached in January 2016, during an official visit of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to Saudi Arabia, the source said.

The Saudi diplomatic mission later denied this information as unfounded.

The new parliamentary complex will be constructed in the same location as the Ministry of Agriculture, the Dushanbe mayor’s office, the Iranian Embassy and several apartment buildings, while the governmental complex would be constructed on Roudaki Avenue, where Rohat Teahouse is located.
