A delegation of representatives of the Interior Ministry of Afghanistan, led by Deputy Interior Abdul Khalil Bakhtiar, has visited the Drug Control Agency (DCA) under the President of Tajikistan.

The delegation members also included representatives of the US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) and the Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre for Combating Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and their Precursors (CARICC), Khoushnoud Rahmatulloyev, a spokesman for the DCA, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Tajik drug control chief Sherkhon Salimozoda reportedly briefed the guests on the current drug situation in Tajikistan, the DCA structure  and cooperation between the Tajik counter narcotics agency and Afghan interior ministry.

According to him, drug control officers of Tajikistan and Afghanistan have carried out 27 joint operations over the past two years.

The INL representative Patrick Tanimura reportedly expressed hope that such a cooperation would expand in the future because the current situation requires a combination of efforts to combat ‘the plague of the century’.
