Dushanbe Mayor yesterday received St. Petersburg Vice-Governor, Ms. Anna Mityanina, according to the Dushanbe mayor’s office.
The two sides reportedly discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation between the Tajik capital and St. Petersburg, which is the second largest city in Russia.
Emomali and Mityanina reportedly discussed cooperation between the two cities in the fields of agribusiness management and housing and communal services, the possibility of launching joint ventures, attraction of St. Petersburg investments in Dushanbe’s economy and the delivery of the state-of-the-art medical and industrial equipment to Dushanbe.
After the meeting with Rustam Emomali, Anna Mityanina and Mahmadsaid Zavaydzoda, the Frist Deputy Mayor of Dushanbe, signed a protocol to the agreement of 1999 on cooperation between the administrations of St. Petersburg and Dushanbe and a plan of joint actions for 2017-2018, the source said at the mayor’s office.
During a meeting with journalists, Ms. Mityanina noted that a number of roundtables to discuss trade and economic cooperation between the two cities would take place on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg mission’s visit to Dushanbe.
Russian Ambassador to Tajikistan Igor Lyakin-Frolov, who also attended the meeting, noted that Tajikistan now has direct trade and economic cooperation with more than 80 subjects of the Russian Federation.
“Tajikistan’s General Consulate that has recently been opened in St. Petersburg will promote further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia,” Russian diplomat added.
The Mariinsky Opera soloists Victoria Ystrebova and Grigory Chernetsov gave a concert at the Opera and Ballet Theater in Dushanbe yesterday evening and a concert of the St. Petersburg vocal band “Feel’armonia” is being held in a concert hall of the Tajik Philharmonic Society in Dushanbe today evening. .
Meanwhile, physicians from St. Petersburg are expected to give master-classes to local medical workers and provide advices to the Dushanbe population.
Recall, a cultural and business delegation of St. Petersburg, led by Ms. Anna Mityanina, arrived in Dushanbe yesterday on a three-day visit.
The delegation members include representatives of the St. Petersburg administration, businesspeople, physicians and cultural teams.
St. Petersburg is one of the first to sign a sister city agreement with Dushanbe. The agreement was signed on October 6, 1997.
St. Petersburg is the second largest city in Russia, politically incorporated as a federal subject (a federal city). Saint Petersburg is a major trade gateway, financial and industrial center of Russia specializing in oil and gas trade, shipbuilding yards, aerospace industry, radio and electronics, software and computers; machine building, heavy machinery and transport, including tanks and other military equipment, mining, instrument manufacture, ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy (production of aluminum alloys), chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, publishing and printing, food and catering, wholesale and retail, textile and apparel industries, and many other businesses.
