Japan’s government supports development of sports in Tajikistan

On September 29, Mr. Hajime Kitaoka, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tajikistan, Mr, Dilshod Nazarov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Youth and Sports Affairs under the Government of Tajikistan, Mr. Ryosuke Ando, Assistant Director, Secretariat of the Headquarters for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Cabinet Secretariat and Mr. Shirinjon Mamadsafoyev, General Secretary of the Judo Federation of Tajikistan, attended the handover ceremony of “The Project for Provision of Equipment for Judo Training Centers”.

According to Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe, the total amount of US$90,906 was allocated through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Projects as a part of SPORT FOR TOMORROW program.

“The Project for Provision of Equipment for Judo Training Centers” is specifically designed to ensure proper training environment for young judo trainers and improve the facilities’ condition for the completions.  Through the project, more than 1900m2 of tatami mats were provided to State Enterprise Republican High School of Sports Skills of Wrestling in Dushanbe, Regional Palace of Sport in Khorog, Regional Training Center in Qairaqqum, and Sport Hall of Judo and National wrestling Gushtingiri in Khujand.  Installation of new tatami mats will significantly improve the base for the Federation’s judo activities throughout the country.

A number of projects are implemented throughout the world through Japan’s SPORT FOR TOMORROW program.  The program aims to promote and expand sporting value and the Olympic and Paralympic Movement to people of all generations, including the youths who represent the future.  The program is implemented during the years between 2014 and 2020, with the target population of more than 10 million people in over 100 countries.  It is the commitment by the Japanese Government to implement the SPORT FOR TOMORROW program effectively and successfully towards the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
