President Emomali Rahmon today paid a working visit to the Roudaki district, according to the Tajik president’s official website. The purpose of the visit was for the president to get acquainted with the social and economic situation in the district.
President attended an official opening of a new building of School # 50, which will accommodate 1,280 students.
The construction of the school has reportedly been financed by Tebian Electric Apparatus (TBEA), a Chinese manufacturer of power transformers and other electrical equipment, and a developer of transmission projects.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the president noted that schools in the Roudaki district are experiencing an acute shortage of teachers of the English and Tajik languages, physics and basic science.
The head of state also expressed concern about increase in crime rate the district. Compared to January-August last year, the number of crimes in the Roudaki district has increased by 17 percent over the first eight months of this year, the president said noting that over the past four years alone, 168 residents of the district have stood trial for membership in terrorist and extremist organizations.
Emomali Rahmon also noted that more than 2,500 hectares of lands had been illegally sold in the district over the past twenty years.
Last year alone, prosecutor revealed 960 cases of illegal purchase and sale of land in the district for a total amount of 45 million somoni.
Three hectares were sold last year, 32 hectares were sold in 2015 and 2.5 hectares have been sold over the first nine months of this year,” the president noted.
“Over the past three years, fifty-eight farming units have been abolished in the Roudaki district due to the sale of their lands,” Rahmon said.
