Uzbek defense minister will arrive in Tajikistan for the first ever visit since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Abdusalom Azizov will pay visit to Tajikistan from October 11-13, a source in the Tajik power-wielding structures told Asia-Plus in an interview.
The main purpose of the visit is for him to participate in a meeting of the CIS Council of Defense Minister that will take place in the Tajik capital on October 12.
While in Dushanbe, the Uzbek minister is also expected to hold meetings with Tajik officials, the source said.
The CIS defense ministers’ meeting will discuss more than twenty issues, including the current situation along Tajikistan’s common border with Afghanistan and its influence on the regional security.
Abdusalom Azizov was appointed as Defense Minister of Uzbekistan in September this year. Prior to this he had served as Interior Minister of Uzbekistan since January 4, 2017. Earlier, Abdusalom Azizov served as chief of police in Jizzakh region. Azizov had served as chief of police in Jizzakh region since December 2009.
From December 2008 to December 2009, Azizov served as First Deputy Interior Minister of Uzbekistan.
From November to December 2008, he was Deputy Interior Minister of Uzbekistan.
From September 2006 to November 2008, Azizov was Director General of Uznefteproduct, an affiliate of the National Holding Company Uzbekneftegaz.
In early September 2006, Abdusalom Azizov served as Chairman of the Management Board of the National Holding Company Uzbekneftegaz.
