Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov participated in an extended protocol meeting of the CIS foreign ministers that took place in Sochi, Russia, on Tuesday.
According the Tajik MFA information department, the ministers discussed a broad range of issues related to political, economic and humanitarian cooperation within the CIS area.
They, in particular, exchanged views on the issues of supporting the institution of the family and traditional values as well as a set of organizational and practical measures to adjust the CIS to the current realities with a view to increasing the efficiency of the CIS charter and sectoral bodies’ activities.
Belarusian BelTA reports the CIS foreign ministries also discussed the draft documents which were submitted for consideration to the CIS Council of Heads of State that is meeting in Sochi today.
These documents reportedly include the draft statements on supporting families and traditional family values, the concept of cooperation in countering corruption and the document on the upgrade of the CIS joint air defense system to meet the challenges of aerospace defense.
Speaking at the meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov wished Tajikistan success in chairing the Commonwealth of Independent States next year. Tajikistan will assume the rotating presidency of the organization in 2018.
The next meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers will take place in the Belarusian capital, Minsk, on April 6, 2018.
The Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS Member Nations is the main executive body ensuring cooperation in the field of foreign policy activities of the CIS member states on the matters of mutual interest, adopting decisions during the period between the meetings of the Council of the CIS Heads of State, the Council of the CIS Heads of Government and by their orders. The first session of the Council took place in August 1993.
