A 36,500 somoni (equivalent to more than 4,000 U.S. dollars) fine has been imposed on a resident of the city of Buston (formerly Chkalovsk) in the Sughd province for an attempt to sell his apartment for foreign currency, according to Sugdnews news agency.

He was reportedly detained while taking 17,000 U.S. dollars for his apartment.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against him under the provisions of Article 286 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – illegal bargain in foreign currency.

His guilt has been proven during the trial and the court imposed a 36,500 somoni fine on him, Sugdnews says.
