President Emomali Rahmon yesterday received visiting Chairman of Armenia’s National Assembly (Parliament) Ara Babloyan, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
In the course of the talks, both sides expressed satisfaction with the current level and quality of various directions of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Armenia, particularly inter-parliamentary ties and permanent high-level political dialogue.
Implementation of agreements reached during Tajik president’s official visit to Armenia in July this year has reportedly laid foundation for further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
In this connection, Tajik leader expressed hope that Armenian parliamentary speaker’s visit to Tajikistan would give a new impulse to development of inter-state and inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries.
The sides reportedly exchanged views on ways to expand economic, scientific and cultural cooperation between their countries both in a bilateral format and within the frameworks of the United Nations, OSCE, CIS and CSTO.
Rahmon and Babloyan also noted that Tajikistan and Armenia shared similar stances on many issues of today’s world.
They also discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation in addressing modern challenges and threats, strengthening border control and peaceful solution of political conflicts in the countries of the world, the website said.
The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia is the legislative branch of the government of Armenia. Before 1995, it was referred to as the Supreme Council of Armenia and formerly known as the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic under Soviet rule.
The National Assembly is a unicameral body. It consists of at least 101 seats, but with additional seats allocated it may grow to about 200 seats in extremely rare cases.
