Chief prosecutors of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan meet in Tashkent to discuss cooperation

Tajik Prosecutor-General Yusuf Rahmon yesterday met in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, with his Uzbek counterpart Otabek Murodov to discuss cooperation.

According to the press center of the Prosecutor-General’s Office of Uzbekistan, the two sides discussed issues related to expansion of cooperation between them in combating terrorism and religious extremism.

They also exchanged views on measures to ensure security and rule of law in the region through creation of concrete mechanism.

Uzbek chief prosecutor reportedly briefed Yusuf Rahmon on measures taken to liberalization Uzbekistan’s criminal legislation and improve activities of Uzbek law enforcement authorities.  

Tajik Prosecutor-General Yusuf Rahmon, for his part, noted that the meeting would give an impulse to further expansion of cooperation between the two countries.  

The meeting reportedly resulted in signing of a government-to-government agreement between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on legal assistance and cooperation in ensuring protection of rights and freedoms of citizens, combating crime, as well as interaction between prosecutors of border regions.
