According to findings by the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption, the Ministry of Education and Science is the most corrupt governmental agency in Tajikistan.

“70 corruption-related crimes were committed by employees of the Ministry of Education and Science last year,” Abdukarim Zarifzoda, the first deputy director of the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption, told reporters in Dushanbe on February 15.

According to him, those 70 cases include crimes related to document forgeries, issuing fake degrees and forged construction reports.

Besides, the anticorruption agency last year detected 60 corruption-related crimes committed by representatives of the health sector, 57 corruption-related crimes committed by officers of the Interior Ministry, 26 corruption-related crimes committed by officers of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) and 390 corruption-related crimes committed by representatives of the banking sector.

Meanwhile, 10 anticorruption officers were jailed in September last year.  The sentence followed their conviction on charges of fraud and bribery.
