No Tajiks remain in Syrian territories under government control, says Syrian diplomat

Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riad Haddad says no Tajik have remained in Syrian territories under government control.

Ambassador Riad Haddad was in Dushanbe to participate in a two-day international counter-terrorism conference that concluded in the Tajik capital on May 4.

“Syrian police have not arrested any Tajik national while freeing territories from terrorists.  Therefore, there are no Tajik nationals in Syrian prisons,” Syian diplomat told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, all foreign militants left Syrian territory (there were reportedly 30,000 foreign militants in Syria).

“The northern part of Syria is under the control of the US army and there are refugee camps there.  We know that there are Tajik children and women there,” Ambassador Haddad said.

Meanwhile Jumahon Ghiyosov, the deputy head of the Executive Committee of the Executive Committee of Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), said that 90 percent of Islamic State (IS) militants who had survived in Syria had moved to Afghanistan.  “4,500 militants of IS terror group have been deployed in northern provinces of Afghanistan and 80 percent of them are natives of Russia, Central Asia’s nations and  China,” Ghiyosov noted.
