EBRD expands cooperation with Tajikistan’s banking system

Mr. Neil McKain, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Regional Director for Central Asia, yesterday met here with Mr. Jamoliddin Nouraliyev, the First Deputy Head of the National bank of Tajikistan (NBT).

During the meeting, Mr. McKain noted that seven EBRD-supported projects having been implemented in Tajikistan’s financial and banking system this year, says the NBT press center.   

According to the NBT press center, Mr. McKain noted that the EBRD had outlined the main directions of cooperation with Tajik central bank for the near future. 

The EBRD official reportedly noted that the Bank is ready to collaborate with Tajikistan’s banking system in the fields of forecasting macroeconomic indicators and communication strategy outlined, which has a direct connection to inflation targeting. 

Nouraliyev, for his part, called on the EBRD to collaborate on strengthening control over activities of lending agencies, raising responsibility of the Council of Observers of Banks, and assessing quality of the assets of the country’s banking system.   

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has close contacts with lending agencies of Tajikistan.  The Bank now assumes the 10.7% ownership interest in Bank Eskhata, the 12%ownership interest in Agroinvestbonk, the 13.7% ownership interest in AccessBank Tajikistan, and the 12.5% ownership interest in Imon International.
