It cannot be ruled out that Rahmon and Mirziyoyev can agree on participation of Uzbekistan in Roghun project

The head of the Association of Political Scientists of Tajikistan, Abdughani Mamadazimov, says it cannot be ruled out that Emomali Rahmon and Shavkat Mirziyoyev can agree on participation of Uzbekistan in the second stage of the Roghun Hydropower Project.

“It is quite possible that Uzbekistan can provide US$300-500 million for completion of construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power plant in Tajikistan,” said Mamadazimov.  “Participation of Uzbekistan in the Roghun Hydropower Project could guarantee stable relations between the countries for decades.”

Tajik expert also believes that Tashkent alongside Moscow, Beijing and Ashgabat will become strategic partner of Dushanbe.

“I think that Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, which both border Afghanistan, realize well the level of threat emanating from this country.  Therefore, an agreement on expansion of cooperation in the field of security will be one of the key documents that will be signed in Tashkent during Tajik leader’s state visit to Uzbekistan,” underlined Tajik expert.

Besides, Dushanbe and Tashkent will develop a common position on Central Asian regional problems, Mamadazimov added.

According to some sources, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon is expected to pay a state visit to Uzbekistan from August 17-18.
