A Tajik-Uzbek business forum that took place in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, yesterday has resulted in signing of a number of agreements and contracts totaling more than 100 million U.S. dollars, according to the press center of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Tajikistan.

Presided over by Mr. Farrukh Hamralizoda, Chairman of the State Committee on Investments and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest) of Tajikistan and Mr. Nodir Otajonov, Vice-Premier of Uzbekistan, the event reportedly brought together more than 400 representatives of ministries and agencies of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan as well as business communities of the two countries.

The forum participants exchanged views on ways to expand economic cooperation between the two countries and discussed issues related to information cooperation in promotion of companies’ products in markets of the two countries, according to the CCI press center.

They reportedly also held consultations on development of business and investment in Tajikistan.

Speaking at the forum, Mr. Hamralizoda noted that more than 180 agreements totaling more than 730 million U.S. dollars were signed between the countries over the last year.

Meanwhile, Uzbek media reports say the event was organized to promote the expansion of trade ties between the entrepreneurs of the two countries, as well as to promote the growth of the number of new joint ventures and the strengthening of bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

A two-way trade between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan rose 35 percent in six months to June 30, 2018 reaching 160 million U.S. dollars, according to UzDaily.

The Uzbek side reportedly called on Tajik companies to actively use the mechanism of financing of trade operations, represented by Uzbek banks, to the amount of up to US$100 million, which would make it possible to reach the bilateral trade turnover of US$500 million at a rapid pace.

Within the framework of the business forum, 11 agreements were signed between representatives of business circles of the two countries for the amount of US$103.3 million.

Also, meetings in the B2B format were held, where entrepreneurs reached a number of agreements, due to which an increase in the total amount of agreements is expected.

UzReport says 11 agreements worth 103.3 million U.S dollars were signed during the business forum in Tashkent.

On th same day, participants of the business forum visited the largest enterprises for the production of electrical engineering, textile factories and farms in Uzbekistan.
