Merchants complain to Dushanbe mayor over delay in payment of compensations to them

Asia-Plus

Dushanbe authorities are delaying payment of compensations to 107 merchants for demolition of their shops at the former Shohmansour Bazaar and the merchants have decided to complain to the mayor.

Recall, the Shohmansour Bazaar, locally known as Zeleyony Bazaar, was demolished in October last year and many of merchants running their shops at the Shohmansour Bazaar moved to the Mehrgon Bazaar (formerly Poytakht-90).

The Poytakht-90 Shopping Complex was opened in September 2014.  The Dushanbe budget allocated 202.6 million somoni (equivalent to some 40 million U.S. dollars) for construction of that complex.

Meanwhile, 107 merchants have been left without shops, and according to them, the Dushanbe authorities have promised to pay their damages.

The State Committee on Investments and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest) has reportedly estimated their shops demolished at the Shohmansour district at 2,000-4,000 somoni per square meter.

According to unofficial data, a total amount of compensations is some 60 million somoni.

The Dushanbe authorities are reportedly delaying the payment of compensations to those 107 merchants.

The merchants say Dushanbe Deputy Mayor, Bakhtiyor Nazirmadov, who oversees the issue of payment of the compensations, hast just promised to resolve the issue but the case has not had moved on so far.  Therefore, they have decided to complain to Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali.
