Visit to Uzbekistan will be written in history of Tajik-Uzbek relations in golden letters, says Tajik leader

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon presented outcomes of his recent state visit to Uzbekistan at a government session that took place in Dushanbe on August 20.  Tajik leader expressed gratitude to Tajik businesspeople for the exhibition of Tajik industrial goods that was organized in Tashkent on August 17.  

The August 20 meeting reviewed the process of implementation of president’s orders and instructions as well as government’s regulations on improvement of territories, according to the Tajik president’s official website.  

On the outcomes of his state visit to Uzbekistan that took place on August 17-18, Emomali Rahmon noted that they would be written in history of relations between the two countries in golden letters.

According to him, one of the most important results of the visit was signing of an agreement on strategic partnership.  

Rahmon also expressed gratitude to Tajik businesspeople for the exhibition of Tajik industrial goods that was held in the Uzbek capital on August 17.  

The president ordered the government and the boards of the intergovernmental; commission on development and strengthening of relations between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and the intergovernmental Tajik-Uzbek commission for trade and economic cooperation to take specific steps to ensure implementation of the signed cooperation documents.  

It is to be noted that Tajik President Emomali Rahmon paid a state visit to Uzbekistan for the first time since coming to power in the early 1990s. 

The most momentous document to emerge from Rahmon’s state visit to Uzbekistan was the agreement on strategic partnership.  

“The decision to upgrade interstate cooperation to a higher level of strategic partnership is a natural and logical result of the huge positive changes seen in our relationship,” Rahmon said, following one-on-one talks with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.  .

In all, 27 bilateral governmental agreements addressing bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in industry, education, border security, agriculture and much else were signed during President’s Rahmon’s state visit to Uzbekistan.
