Security measures tightened in Tajikistan in connection with the upcoming national holiday

admin

Security measures have been tightened in Tajikistan and the law enforcement officers have been partially put on alert in connection with the upcoming Independence Day, which is celebrated in Tajikistan on September 9.

“On September 1, the power-wielding structures of the country will barrack their troops,” a source in the Tajik government told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, security measures will be tightened in all cities and districts of the country and border control will be strengthened.

Besides, after the Independence Day celebrations separate sub-units of the country’s power-wielding structures will be sent to the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) in connection with the upcoming working visit of President Rahmon to the area, the source added.

The Republic of Tajikistan celebrates its Independence Day on September 9. This public holiday commemorates the independence of Tajikistan from the Soviet Union in 1991.

In 1924, Tajikistan was incorporated into Uzbekistan as the Tajik Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. It became a separate constituent Soviet republic (the Tajik SSR) five years later.  When the imminent collapse of the Soviet Union became evident, Tajikistan proclaimed its independence. The official proclamation was made on September 9, 1991.

Independence Day in Tajikistan is a national holiday and a non-working day. It is celebrated nationwide with solemn speeches, flag hoisting ceremonies, concerts, performances, exhibitions, street fairs, sporting competitions and firework displays.  The main celebration is held in the capital city of Dushanbe.
